Yet another post that took me way too long to write, but if you guys only knew how much crap I have to do just to write an entry this high-quality. Anyway, last weekend I went to DC for Passover (it’s a Jewish holiday for all of you ignorant punks out there, heheh just playin’) and to visit my boy Ed at American University. American was actually my number two pick for college, but I ended up going to my number one, Denver… but back to the story. Thursday my cousin David and I(I was born in DC so all my family is there) picked up Ed at a bus stop where he was harrassing some scared little kids, nah he wouldn’t do that… anymore. We had the seder which was fine, but then we went to his dorm and the fun began. Let’s see here… Thursday nite I don’t think we did too much. It was pretty late when we finally got to his dorm, so we sat in his room and exchanged some of our newest pictures of random stuff and watched some weird movie on TV with his crazy funny roommate Dan. Dan is from Boston and he’s nuts. I love the kid… crazy Boston accent and pranks his friends with soundboards constantly (several of which I got to participate in the next nite). On Friday morning I helped Ed and his crew sell some of their a cappella CDs. Ed is in an all-male group at AU called ‘On a Sensual Note’. I saw them perform in the middle of the cafeteria… they’re damn good. After the adventures in sales, we did a radio show. You probably know that I have been doing Peety’s Playhouse on KVDU since I came to Denver, and Ed was obviously a loyal listener and fan of the show, so he got a show on American’s station too. His show is kickass and it’s called ‘Radioed’. If you can’t figure out why his name is called that, just stop reading. I’m surprised you can read at all. Anyway, we were supposed to have a 2 hour show but we did a 3 hour because we were having a great time. It was really fun… the station there is in somewhat disrepair but we had a sweet time. Lots of good music, lots of funny stupid banter. Oh yes… it was great. After that, we watched 8 Mile in Mike’s room… it was the first time I saw the extra battles. Good LORD they’re awesome. Colin had been telling me about them for weeks and I finally got to see them. So quality. Before the movie we went to the campus McDonalds. They have a freaking touchscreen where you can put in your order… customize it and everything… so they CAN’T get it wrong. Simply amazing. Ed and Dan got the extra large chocolate shake…. 42 OUNCES! They were like paintcans of shake… awesome.
Saturday was the big adventure day. Ed and I woke up sorta early and took the bus into Georgetown. On the bus was this one crazy dirty guy babbling jibberish and banging his arm against the window. That was entertaining enough, but then this insane woman got on the bus and sat in the front corner at the windows saying things like “Russia….Russia….. kidnapped again…. white car going up the hill…”. That was also hilarious, and she was flicking off everyone that got on or off the bus. You’d think that would be enough entertainment for one bus ride… but no. This guy got on the bus and we could barely not crack up right there. He looked like he thought he was the mayor of a city that only existed in his mind. Take a look at this guy! We were dying… he had a suit, a fedora, a cane, and a pipe. WOW. Anyway, when we got to Georgetown we took a couple of cool pics and then went to this crazy store with the coolest clothes ever. I almost bought this green fishnet-style longsleeve shirt. I coulda pulled that thing off, kid. Word UP. After that store we went to Urban Outfitters which was really cool. I almost never go to places like that… I should do it more. I bought a sweet fedora for $15 and Ed found some sweet ghetto tshirts and one of them actually had our hometown in IL written on the back. So weird. After our mini shopping adventure, we got to some state administration buildings and other behind-the-scenes facilities like that. We wanted to get to the big monuments and stuff, but we didn’t know exactly where we were, so we got to the freeway and….well…. ran across. It was crazy, and if you’ve been following with the pics in this post, then you saw just how funny the dash across was. We got to the Reflecting Pool, which was the coolest part of the day. We found a piece of concrete about 5-6 feet out in the water, so we both got on it and took some awesome pictures. That was really fun and tons of people were looking at us laughing and what not. Good times. Later, we chilled in Ed’s room, looked at our pictures, and then at like 2am we went to this pretty ghetto greasy-spoon place called ‘Steak n Egg’. It was deeeeeeeeeeeeeelicious. The food was amazing, the staff was pushy, the people were loud and dirty… it was my kind of place. I wish there were more restaurants like that. The guy behind the counter, ‘Oz’, was the fastest man I’ve ever seen. He made everyone’s food in ways I didn’t think were possible. To put stuff in omelets, he would put the bacon or mushrooms or whatever on the spatula, then roll up the semi-cooked eggs onto the metal part and then unroll it onto the grill… it was AMAZING.
The next was going home day. I took the subway to the airport, and guess who I met in line for the security check? RUSSELL SIMMONS! That’s right, ladies and gents, the father of Def Jam records. It was crazy. I recognized him right away and I was like “Mr. Simmons, you rock man.” and he goes “Hey thanks a lot bro. I’m glad to have you as a fan.” What a cool guy! So I had a really great time in DC. I hope to go visit Ed again sometime this summer or next year or something. Oh yeah, I gotta give Ed credit for a few of the pictures in this post. He gave me all of his so I could use the best from both of our collections from that day. Recognize our skills or die.
Friday nite I saw Sum 41 live… I’ll post about it in a few days and a couple other things.
