…and I made it!
As many of you Gees know, I left for school on Monday. I started the long drive to Denver at 6am on Monday morning, and drove all day.
The drive was actually not that bad – I expected it to be reeeeally long (ok, I guess it was) but I didn’t get tired. It was weird. Anyway, my first stop was at a McDonalds rest stop about 50 miles from my house for breakfast. I hadn’t been driving for very long; I needed some kind of sign that this was going to be a good trip. Luckily, I saw that sign. Right after I got in line for McDonalds, three really cute girls around my age (one of them was stunning, wow) got in line right behind me and started giggling and stuff. I got my food and sat down, and they sat next to my table. I didn’t talk to them, they were all talking about something, I forget, but it was a great sign and knew that this was going to be a good trip. Rock! So I left there and drove and drove and drove, and drove, and then I drove. I got on route 80 and entered Iowa. There is NOTHING in Iowa. I’ll give you a very concise summary of my experience in Iowa. Farm, farm, farm, seemingly endless farm, rest stop, fa-fa-fa-faaaarm, farm farm farm, 28 more farms, farm, identical rest stop, farm farm. And then? I hit Nebraska. Except for the 30 or so miles of oh-so-stimulating Omaha, the atmosphere of Nebraska was identical to Iowa. I only stopped a few times in both states, just for gas and food. I couldn’t get any cell phone reception, so I couldn’t call Stephie or Colin! Boooo! That sucked. I couldn’t even call my parents and tell them that I wasn’t going to sleep in Lexington, Nebraska like I had planned out. I got to Lexington around 4pm, so I just decided to keep going and going. Much like that small pink bunny with the drum, what was that little fellow’s name? Nevermind.
I stopped at a little Colorado welcome community center. It was totally empty and very cavernous, and soooo echoy! I stood in the middle of it and beatboxed and sang for a good 15 minutes. It sounded amazing, it was echoing like crazy, like I had never heard before. Maybe I’ll bring a mic with me when I drive home and lay down some phat tracks in there. Word? Word. Then I got on route 76. Weirdest. Road. Ever. It felt like I was in a movie – like one of those roads that goes on forever. So strange. It wasn’t endless farms or anything like that, it was just, like, nothing. Some green grass and weird plants on one side of the road, then the road I was on, then the median was the same thing, weird green. The strangest thing was, the median was like 200 feet across to the other side. On the other side of that was the road going the other way, and then more weird green flowers. I drove on that for about 2 hours. So messed up.
When I finally got to campus, they put me in a Centennial Towers room for the night because I wasn’t supposed to be there that night. The next morning I moved into my room in Halls. It’s not bad – I have air conditioning and no roommate. Weeee. I do, although, have an extra set of furniture that I need to get rid of to make my room a LOT bigger. I’ve only decorated a little bit – once I get rid of my extra desk and bed I’ll put up all my posters and stuff.
I’ll add pictures really soon!
