I love discovering great music. Regardless of if the band is popular or not, hearing great new music is one of my favorite things. My hetero-life-mate Danno told me about Zebrahead many years ago and I’ve been a huge fan of them ever since. I’ve seen ‘em 7-8 times now, and they know me. When I hear that they’re coming into town, I call their tour manager and he puts me on the guest list. It’s great. They’re great musicians and really nice guys. The new album, “Broadcast To The World” comes out really soon. If you like rock/punk/rap, you’ll love it.
Anyway, I don’t remember exactly, but somehow I stumbled onto the Purevolume page of a Cincinnati band called Bottom Line. At the time, they only had 1 song up – a demo version of a track for the next album they were working on at the time. I was blown away by the demo, even in it’s demo-y recording quality, called “Nothing is Real (As If It Ever Was)”. I immediately heard that these kids had talent. I loved their sound and energy, and man can they write a melody. I checked out their website and liked what I heard. I contacted one of the singers to tell him how much I enjoyed their tunes, and he was a very nice kid. Talkative, not “I’m too cool to talk to fans”, afterall, nobody out of Cincinnati had ever heard of them. Anyway, Dan (the singer) and I talked a bunch more and became friends. And then I heard. Zebrahead was coming to town with Reel Big Fish. Awesome! I love both bands, it’s always good to see my boys in Zebrahead, I was very happy. THEN, I discovered…. Bottom Line was opening for Zebrahead. Two of my top 5 favorite bands of all time were playing together in a small venue, 5 minutes from my apartment, and I was on the guest list. What could be better?
I’ll tell you what could be better. I read on Ben’s (the other Bottom Line singer) blog that they had to find someone to stay with for the night of tour in Indiana or something, so I asked if they also needed a place in Denver. They did, and my apartment was that place. They pulled up in their van a few hours before the show and hung at my apartment. They hadn’t really been staying in hotels or anywhere proper for days, so there was a lot of laundry and general cleaning to do. We went to lunch and Guitar Center, watched some TV, it was cool. They were all really nice kids, especially my boy Dan. It was great to finally meet him after talking on the phone and IM for months. Overall a great time. The show was amazing (although I was the only Bottom Line fan in the house) and hanging backstage with Bottom Line, Zebrahead, AND Reel Big Fish at the same time was really surreal.
Let’s see… other noteworthy events. It was Alden’s birthday recently, so we threw a party at the Big Pink. A few months ago we were talking about house parties and how whenever they have a theme, it’s just so the girls will wear skimpy clothes. There’s nothing wrong with that, but I said I wanted to make fun of it. I suggested Robots and Sluts, which later morphed into Hoes and Robots. There were some sweet robot costumes, a few scandelous hoes, and what did I go as? A hose, of course. Plenty of people were going as robots, and dressing up as a girl wouldn’t be comfortable, so I decided to go another route and be a hose. Everyone thought it was hilarious and even though the costume was really hard to keep together, I had a lot of fun.
Alden, Jake, Paul and I went to a private party for the Super Bowl (or as we call it, Booper Soul) and left at halftime. What a lame game. We watched the Rose Bowl together at the Cherry Cricket (the best burger and fries in Denver) – what a game! I don’t care at all about football but man was it exciting.

Other news – my friend Casey recently unveiled his new custom printing website, Printfection. You can design and print your own custom T-shirts, hoodies, mousepads, stuff like that. I’ve been beta testing it for him for a long time now and it’s finally launched. I opened up a g27 designs store over there – buy my stuff! It’s cheap and really funny!
