greatest story ever

Monday, December 15th, 2003

Ok, finally time to post! It has been way too long, but I haven’t had a chance to document my current adventures in a while.
I went to Notre Dame to visit my hetero-life-mate (think Jay and Silent Bob) Danno. As you probably know, he and I have been friends since I was born, and he was one of the first people on Earth I ever met. You may remember last year’s trip to Notre Dame, it was actually exactly one year before this trip. I went to the Dillon Hall Christmas Dance both years so far – I plan on being the only person that doesn’t actually go to the school but is at all four dances. I got there on Thursday afternoon and met Dan in the parking lot. We went to his room and it was time for lunch. I snuck into the dining hall for every meal I ate at Notre Dame which would bring the grand total to about 6, I think. Anyway, it was time to find me a date – the dance was Friday night and I had no one to go with yet! We walked around the library looking for girls I could ask, but most of the place was very quiet and empty. Dan made sure to fart really loud in the stacks. Excellent. I saw this really cute girl sitting at one of the library tables studying, so Dan and I spied on her through some bookshelves for a minute and then I just went for it. I pulled up a chair right beside her and just said “Wanna go to the Dillon Hall Christmas Dance with me?” She was a little bit shocked that some dude she didn’t know was asking her to a dance the next night, but she was really sweet and said that she’d love to but she was already going to another dorm’s dance that night with some guy named Brandon. I asked her where I could find this Brandon and set him straight, but she just laughed and said he was a friend of hers and that we shouldn’t put a beat down on him. Fair enough. We left the library in search of a date for me. We decided to just go through the girls’ dorms and see whose doors were open. We walked the halls for a while and had a few small adventures. We ended up at the room of this girl named MC. She seemed pretty fun, and I was thinking about asking her until she turned the light on brighter and I saw her giant football linebacker boyfriend lying on the carpet watching TV next to her. Yikes. We stayed in thurr (brushes off shoulder, thank you Chingy) for another minute and this really cute chick comes around the corner of the room into the doorway (they have 2 rooms with a common room in the middle, we were in the common room, she came in). She looked kinda familiar but most people did there. She walked into the side room and I followed her and asked if she’d go to the dance with me. She was very taken back and didn’t know what to say for a minute, but then she said she’s love to go. Awesome, huh? Well, as Dan and I were leaving, he goes “Dude do you realize who that is?” I was like “Who?” and he says “That’s the girl you saw in that picture last year and thought she was really pretty! The one you said looks like a princess or something…” and I was like “Oh NO WAY! That’s her!? Cool.” It was so weird that she was in that dorm, she doesn’t even live there.
Later, Dan and I met up with Roberto. Roberto is… an interesting guy. He is made of equal parts weird and foreign. He knows and embraces these parts. He is Mexican but you would never guess. He is white and looks like he is kind of foreign but you would never guess Mexican if he didn’t tell you. He has a thick accent and says really weird stuff all the time, but he’s really smart so he might just be messing with you. What can I say, I love the guy. He’s hilarious. Let me try to explain the level of weird he is. He was supposed to be finishing up his English paper on his computer, and Dan and I walk up and what is he doing? Mimicing this picture of Rafiki(I had him send it to me for this post) from The Lion King on his computer. We wanted to go on adventures so I said “Roberto this is no time for Rafiki” and without missing a beat he goes “No, Mr. Peach, it is Rafiki time!” The dude is crazy.
Friday was the dance. Dan’s date Katy(whom he was really happy to be going with, he really likes her a lot) and my date Katie (yeah, both) met us at Dan’s room and we went to a quick, cramped pre-party. Then we all went to the buses to go to the country club for the dance. It was really fun and we all had a great time. The DJ kinda sucked. His mix of music was dumb, he played way too much rock. Some rock is ok, but not that much and not in the order he played it. Whatever. Katie and I sat down at one of the tables and talked for a while, she’s a cool girl, I like her, although even if she means every word she says, she seemed very insincere and I told her so. She says that lots of people have told her that… heh. Guess it wasn’t a problem I was causing. After the dance, everybody went to sleep, we were all exhausted. On Saturday, Dan, Roberto, Will (Dan’s roommate) and I walked around campus looking for adventures. We got into Caitlin’s dorm and I had Roberto go up to her and act as my personal assistant and ask her to next year’s dance. As we were going up and down the halls looking for her, she came up behind us and she was like ‘Hello boys… what are you doing?’ What a buzzkill. I still had Roberto carry out his mission, and he succeeded like I knew he would. Nice work, Roberto, you can now have Rafiki time. Saturday night, we went to a very very cramped party at Katy’s room, and it was pretty weak. WAY too many people in a tiny room. I did get to see Melissa, this sweetie I met last year, and looked bee-utiful. Whew. Anyway, this one girl silenced the party, told everyone to be quiet so she could tell what she called the “best story ever” – she made it seem like she was going to say the most important thing anyone had ever heard. She told a short, horrible story about seeing Noah Wylie at the mall or something and then seeing some other doctor from the show E.R. Worst. Story. Ever. It was hilarious when she was done though, we just started cracking up at how awful her story was. After the party, Dan and I stayed up til 5 in the morning playing old-skool NES on the ‘second floor’ of his dorm room. Will built a huge platform above and across both of their beds and desk units to make a second floor covered with pillows and a small TV to watch movies and play Dreamcast and NES. It was sweet, but the Rescue Rangers game kicked our ass.
Sunday morning I drove home, but halfway home I met my parents in Lansing, IL to visit a golden retriever breeder’s house to see their new puppies. We’re going to get a puppy in about 4 months so we’re shopping around to see who makes the best ones. I walked into their kitchen and ten, count ‘em ten 5 week old puppies were hanging out on the kitchen floor, cute as can be. My parents and I were surrounded by puppies! It was so fun, I played with them until they were all pooped. I don’t think I could marry a girl if she didn’t love puppies. Heh. All you puppy haters out there, stop asking me to marry you!
