sure beats chicago

Sunday, September 29th, 2002

Another weekend has passed, and more adventures have been had. On Friday nite a bunch of us drove up to Liz’s house in the mountains. Driving up there was kinda scenic, but it was really dark so we couldn’t see that much. Leaving the next morning was freakin’ amazing tho, the mountains here are SO cool! The big cliffs and rock faces hang over the highway… it’s so much better than the flat-as-a-gym-floor Chicago thing I’m used to. Anyway, the party at Liz’s was fun and it sucked at the same time. At first it was just the DU kids, but then several of her big drunk idiot snowboarder friends all came over at once and starting trying to pick fights with everybody. It was really annoying and I had to break up a few fights *just* before they happened. While all the drunk jackasses were there, Dan and I mostly walked around making fun of how these kids said that they hated everyone and everything. “Stupid piano… I hate instruments!” That’s a direct quote from the king-of-all-idiots, Bartos. After what seemed like a marathon of misplaced hate and stupidity, we finally kicked them out and for a little while things calmed down for a brief period.
And then entered the stoners.
A group of 20-something year olds who came baked and then proceeded to sit down, happy as can be, and smoke their pipes. What a difference some pot can make – they were really nice and polite. Some kid told me my tshirt was awesome, and then they thanked Liz for letting them come over and they left. It was SO much better than the drunkies! I personally would never smoke pot, but there are people far worse than peaceful stoners. After they all left, Britt, Dan, Dani, Liz and I played strip poker… on a glass table. It was hilarious. Then everyone went to bed except Liz and I stayed up and watched TV and what not. It was cool – we didn’t go to sleep the whole nite and I wasn’t tired at all.
The next day, Dan, Britt and I went into some town and went outlet mall shopping – it was fun, but not sleeping the nite before started to hit me and I fell alseep in J.Crew until Dan threw a sweater at me. Damn him.
Anyway, last nite we all went to this big party at some bar called Heavenly Daze – there was a pretty good sized dance floor that I cut a rug on(especially since it was carpeted, ha get it? yeah shutup). Then we all came home at watched Big Daddy. Scuba Steve!! Damn you!!!

Ah, what a week I’ve had. It can’t compare to my last post, but it’s been fun. A few days ago a frat threw a toga party at a club downtown. Since I’ve never tied a toga before, Mike helped me out and I ended up looking pretty slick. Everyone was dressed to kill. It was ok, even though it was mostly people getting drunk and dancing like idiots. I busted a movie and had 3 girls on each side watching me, which was damn fun. A friend of mine got taken out of the club and to the hospital, she’s fine now, but they think she might have been drugged by someone, but the ambulance got to her before the person who drugged her did. We don’t know exactly what happened.
Then on Friday I got a ride with Vanessa up to Fort Collins to see my boy Colin(aka Colizzle). He is a pimp daddy. He showed me his dorm room which was pretty different from mine, but it was cool anyway. We cruised in the back of a pickup over to the liquor store so his friends could get themselves some drinks for later, and then went to some party that apparently didn’t exist. Oh no, what were Peety and Collizzle to do with themselves?
That’s right, go clubbing. We went to this club called Johnny’s Place that Colin had been to before. It ended up being about 90% black kids, some of them giant 7′ 300-pound black football players that were dancing like mad. They formed a big circle on the dance floor, and each of them were showing off their moves in the middle one by one. Colin and I were watching from the outside and we looked at each other and knew that we were going in. Colin jumped in the middle and did the harlem shake like no other. Now, Colin is a 6’5” white guy, so everyone thought that he was gonna have no skills, but he’s a great dancer and everyone was cheering. After Colin was done, another black guy jumped in and started grooving, but then I stepped in and kind of shooed him away and everyone got real quiet and I BUSTED A FREAKIN MOVE. I was poppin’, lockin’, spinning, the whole thing. Everyone went CRAZY at the site of the white kid with madd style. Some HUGE black guy pulled up my shirt collar and screamed “YEEEEEEAH BOY!” and they all started shouting too. What a nite.

Oh my goodness, I’m gonna have an internet radio show on DU’s network! It’s not on yet, either this week or next it’ll start. Tuesdays at 2-4PM on KVDU – it’s Peety’s Playhouse! I’ll be spinnin’ maybe the most diverse 2 hours of music ever to hit the waves every Tuesday, along with witty commentary, news, and special guests. Right now only campus computers can tune in, but that should change in a day or two. I’ll keep you all posted.

Alright, finally some fun stuff to post about. Things are really starting to pick up around here. After going to a few more super lame ‘stand in a semi circle with a cup of nasty beer in someone’s dirty backyard’ parties and being bored as nuts there, a few days ago, Dan, Britt and I went to a few thrift shops and got some really phat outfits. I got sweet Vans sneakers, a hat, a scarf, a jacket, and a shirt for $12.29 total. Pretty sweet deal. We know we look like pimps. It took a while to decide what we wanted, but I think we came out with some pretty sweet stuff, don’t you? I think I might be Oliver Twist for Halloween.
So, that was really fun, but that’s not the half of the adventures that I’ve been on in the last few days. Last nite a bunch of us took the lightrail to an under-21 club called Rock Island. It was SWEET. I love dancing, and I busted moves that people have never seen before… ha. The place was pretty packed, but not so much that there wasn’t space to cut a rug. I actually got on stage and performed for the crowd and then joined a breakdance circle. It was mostly latino and black guys, but I held my own as the sole white kid. While the rest of my group sat at the bar and drank water like they were fish, I danced straight til’ 1:30AM. Man, that was fun. A girl we were with got in a fight with the bartender so she was kicked out and we all piled into a van cab, yes, all 12 of us.
Had enough? Well, get ready for this. Today I went bungee jumping! This week is Rush for frats, so they’re taking us out to baseball games, go-karting, and the like… but today we went freakin’ bungee jumping and it was crazy. It was only a 70 foot drop, but I still managed to do a big flip on the way down. I really though it was gonne be scarier than it was – but once I got to the top I was totally relaxed and the chick asked me what I was gonna do on the way down. I just said, “A huge flip, of course…” and dove off. It was as good as I thought it would be – freefalling is an amazing feeling… I can’t wait to go skydiving someday!
Well, right now I’m watching Blade I and II with Dan and Mike… I’ll try to go on some more adventures so I’ve got something to post about for y’all. Keep it locked on g27.

Sorry it’s been so long since I posted. I’m so happy to finally be here! In case you never read my site, I’ve just moved into the University of Denver. For some premise on this post, read the previous post called ‘the next big thing’. I just updated that post with some great pics so… please check em out.
Everything here is really sweet – I’ve been hanging out with some cool kids, like Ashley, Dan, Pam and Lyndsie. Denver is so dope… the first few days were packed with meetings, speeches, and dining halls full of kids and parents.
So far the activities include going to Target for last-minute supplies, going to King Soopers with my homies, having a George Foreman party in Brit’s room, working out in the Ritchie Center, and other various craziness. Last nite a few of us tried to go clubbing last nite, but the clubs we went to either picked up at like 3am which we weren’t going to wait for, or the club was empty… so we just drove around and came home and went to some parties. Fun.

Check out my whole dorm room, in full panaramic.

Look where Dan pooped.

11:02 am
I’m at the airport waiting for our flight to board, and I’m gonna have an aisle seat – it’s good to have a travel agent as a mom. I was thinking about leaving all nite, I couldn’t get to sleep til 2:30. Hey did y’all hear that last nite’s Conan is going to be on Comedy Central the next day? That’s awesome. I”l post again when we get into Denver.

3:25 ::now entering mountain time::
Well, we made it to Denver in one piece. We were supposed to have a Buick Century from Avis, but Felix, the right-off-the-boat from Africa Avis rep with a *great* accent hooked us up with a Subaru Outback so we can fit all of our stuff. I’m taking pics along the way, and I’ll post them soon after I get my laptop set up in my dorm room. For now, it’s off to the hotel and then to campus.

10:47 pm
Today we walked around campus a little bit but NOTHING was going on at all. We ate dinner at California Pizza Kitchen and I got a picture with a waitress who looked just like my friend Lucie(check out the prom pictures). Well now it’s off to bed.

8:14am
We’re eating nasty breakfast at the hotel – I’ve got a Spanish placement exam soon(yuck!). I’ll post soon.

11:27 am
I moved into my dorm earlier than I was supposed to, but no one cared at all – I got to pick my side of the room and get everything all set up and everything. Spanish test was online and was not that bad. Now it’s time for lunch and what not. Hang in there kiddies!
